Are you a woman in your 40’s or older, juggling work, have a family to look after, household chores and trying to take care of your own health at the same time? It can feel so overwhelming right? Well, that about sums me up! And on top of everything else, I’ve struggled with gut health issues.

There is so much information out there online about wellness and gut health, which is great- but I am not a young single woman who has all the time in the world to focus on myself! (which is all I seem to find out there) As a busy mum balancing family life and the rising cost of living, I know that spending lots of money on organic foods, specialist ingredients and expensive supplements simply isn’t realistic for many of us. Then there’s mealtimes. Cooking meals to support my gut health while I also have to think of my family –who of course have their own taste and preference- has been challenging as I never wanted to restrict them of certain foods just because I struggle to tolerate it. Managing everyone’s needs as well as your own is like a constant balancing act!

Hi, my name is Lily. After years of dealing with digestive issues, food sensitivities, chronic bloating and feeling out of balance, I decided to take a deeper look into gut health. What started as personal research turned into a passion for understanding the gut microbiome and how food and lifestyle can truly be the medicine.

I’ve visited the doctors in the past and was told I may have IBS but not formally diagnosed with it and was given information about the low FODMAP diet. I have suffered chronic stomach bloating and discomfort for many years and it often affected my social life.

I created Gut Health On A Budget because, when I was searching for help myself, I struggled to find advice that actually suited the life of a busy mum. Most things I came across felt too time consuming, too expensive, or simply unrealistic.

I am not a professional nutritionist or dietitian (I work in education) but through this blog, I want to share my own experience, practical tips, affordable meal ideas and realistic lifestyle changes that have helped me improve my gut health. I hope that this space can help other busy mums/ women improve their gut health too, in a way that feels simple, realistic and budget-friendly.
